Wyse Technology Attracted by India's Engineering Talent Pool, Opens Global Software Development Centre in Bangalore
Company Set to Capture Large Share of India's Thin Client Market
San Jose, CA –
20/06/2005 -
Wyse Technology Inc., the worldwide leader in network-centric (or thin client) computing, today announced it has established its new India Corporate Sales Office and Software Development Centre. The 24,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility located in Bangalore will service Wyse Technology's global research and engineering needs and will employ some of India's most highly skilled engineers. This first facility is fully operational with an initial employee base of 140 and was inaugurated June 15, 2005. India will be the engineering hub which supports all current Wyse products and will develop the next generation of software to support Wyse's growth plans.
Wyse's investment in India represents the single largest capital commitment in the company's 25 year history. The Wyse Technology India project was completed in five months instead of the 10 to 14 months time frame that it usually takes for this type of a build-out. "We are very excited to be in India," says Nav Bhullar, President, Wyse Technology India. "The talent pool here is incredible and we already have a core staff of brilliant, dedicated professionals."
As well as supporting Wyse's global needs the center will develop specific products designed to capture a significant share of India's growing thin client market. "After talking with channel partners and our customers, we are convinced that the India market is ripe for the kind of products Wyse can provide," added Mr. Bhullar.
According to John Kish, President and CEO of Wyse Technology, now is the right time to focus efforts on promoting thin client technology as a compelling solution for enterprises throughout India: "The bandwidth, critical to network-centric computing solutions, is available to enterprises across the nation today," commented John Kish. " This asset, coupled with India's well-known leadership role in the global IT development community, makes the country the ideal place for new product development. India offers an immediate market opportunity for Wyse's thin client technology and we are excited to integrate the country so tightly into our overall global strategy."
"Wyse is the market leader in revenue and shipments both globally, and regionally in Asia Pacific with nearly 35% of all thin clients shipped in 2004," commented Bob O'Donnell, Research VP, Clients and Displays with IDC. "We predict the thin client market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 20.5% from 2005 to 2009, significantly outpacing the overall growth rate of the PC market."
Across the globe, organizations face an increased need for data security yet are constrained by shrinking IT budgets. Industry research from Gartner advises that their TCO model shows that thin clients can be 41 percent less expensive to run than unmanaged PCs.*
Thin-client technology from Wyse enables these organizations to deploy and manage all points on the network both efficiently and securely. To this end, the new Software Development Centre in India is tasked with developing the next generation of thin client software and driving the future direction of the global thin client computing industry.
