Wyse Technology Continues Its Rapid Expansion in Korea and Greater China to Address Rising Demand for Thin Computing

Global Leader in Thin Computing Continues Its Worldwide Strategy for Technology Driven Markets

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced Charlie Park as President of Wyse Technology, Korea, and Kelly Chi as Regional Manager of Wyse Technology for greater China.  At Wyse, Park and Chi will lead Wyse to meet the growing demand for more secure, manageable and lower cost computing options in Korea and Peoples' Republic of China.

Park brings to Wyse over 22 years experience in the information, communications and technology industry in senior management positions, including Country Manager for AMD, Sales Director for Dell and Senior Sales Manager for Samsung Electronics.

"Organizations in Korea are becoming increasingly concerned about the security of their data, in addition to investigating strategies to reduce their overall costs of their computing infrastructure.  Wyse thin computing solutions can help these companies realize both increased security and reduced costs," said Park.

Based in Taipei, Chi brings to Wyse over 22 years experience in the information, communications and technology industry in senior management positions for organizations such as Oracle and Broadvision.

"When reviewing the drivers of thin computing in Taiwan, the manufacturing industry provides a perfect example where protection of intellectual property is of paramount importance.  Security is therefore key," said Chi.  "Wyse thin clients are among the most secure desktop access devices, with no hard drive on which information can be captured and removed from the network."

"Wyse is the market leader in revenue and shipments both globally and regionally in Asia Pacific with nearly 35% of all thin clients shipped in 2004," said Bob O'Donnell, Research VP, Clients and Displays with IDC.  "We predict the thin client market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 20.7% from 2005 to 2009, significantly outpacing the overall growth rate of the PC market."

Park and Chi joining Wyse is a further step increasing Wyse's current leadership position in the Asia Pacific region.  This announcement follows the recent appointment of former Oracle and Network Appliance senior executive Andrew Hu as President, Asia Pacific.

"We are seeing significant increases in interest in thin computing and thin clients among CIOs and IT managers around the region," said Hu. "In markets such as Korea and greater China, there is an immense need for desktop computing.  Whether it's in the financial, logistics, manufacturing industries or the public sector, there will be a focus on the total cost of ownership and simplified management that thin computing can deliver because of the large population of potential users.

Mr. Hu continued, "The enablers are now in place to make this technology a compelling option for enterprises throughout Korea and greater China.  The bandwidth that is critical to a thin computing solution is available to enterprises across the region today. By leveraging this bandwidth, companies can get all the functionality of the PC without the cost and security headaches associated with deploying large numbers of desktop and laptop PCs. Most importantly, today's advanced remote device management software enables IT administrators to control, manage and leverage the network very effectively and efficiently."

Industry research from Gartner suggests that using thin clients can result in up to 41% in overall cost savings, compared with typically managed PCs(1). According to Park, the top IT managers, CFOs and CEOs in the region are realizing that the time to look at thin computing is now:

"Transaction and task workers are needlessly given PCs. This is overkill for their needs, and wastes precious company resources, while unnecessarily exposing company and customer data and expensive assets to theft, corruption, and loss," said Park.

Chi added, "Thin computing is the right solution for today's toughest IT issues and will easily scale to address tomorrow's challenges, too."
