Thin Client Sales Boom in New Zealand, New Wyse Distributor Appointed

Express Data Broadens Wyse Penetration as New Thin Client Technologies Take Hold

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced the appointment of Express Data as a new distributor in New Zealand to meet the growing demand from local users. Express Data joins existing New Zealand distributor, MPA.

“We are excited to have a distributor of Express Data’s calibre as our new partner in New Zealand,” said Wyse New Zealand territory manager Ward Nash.

“As the New Zealand distributor for Citrix, Express Data is very experienced with all aspects of server based computing. We know they will be instrumental in growing thin computing penetration in New Zealand, particularly as we are now introducing new technologies such as streaming and desktop virtualisation.”

According to a recent IDC report*, New Zealand has the highest penetration of thin client as a percentage of desktop sales in the whole of Asia. IDC report that from 2004 to 2005 the New Zealand market for thin client grew at 90% and accounted for 14.8% of the total desktop market. Wyse is the market leader with some 55% share.

“We are seeing more and more sophisticated applications being rolled out in New Zealand such as CRM and database that are ideally suited to thin client delivery,” said Paul Plester, Express Data general manager sales and marketing.

“Wyse is a perfect solution to the delivery of sophisticated applications via server based computing. Many New Zealand users are questioning using traditional PCs for such delivery due to the high environmental cost, security issues and crippling support overheads.”

Plester commented that the advent of new thin computing technologies such as streaming and virtualisation is quickly growing their penetration against PC’s in New Zealand.

“We are seeing a change in market acceptance from the traditional “kiosk” style user in banking and government to pure PC replacement in schools, distributed business and small business, hence growing opportunities for our resellers in New Zealand.”
