Wyse Extends Market Leadership in Client Virtualization with Multiplatform Support for Microsoft RemoteFX

Wyse's Support for RemoteFX Designed To Be the Best Rich Media Experience for VDI Environments Across All Endpoints Accessing Windows Server 2008 R2

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing and client virtualization, today announced plans to support Microsoft RemoteFX technology, enabling rich media experience across all Wyse client platforms.

Microsoft RemoteFX, a feature being developed for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, will integrate with any and all Wyse devices and both companies expect today's announcements to accelerate desktop virtualization deployments.

"With the Wyse support for RemoteFX, users will benefit from a full, rich media experience while maintaining the energy (Green IT), TCO and security benefits of a VDI environment across multiple client solutions," said Curt Schwebke, Chief Technology Officer, at Wyse.  "The combination of these benefits is yet another reason that we see thin clients paired with cloud computing and virtual desktops becoming the standard for business large and small."

As desktop virtualization adoption continues to grow, end users and IT administrators are seeing the benefits of being able to experience a complete desktop experience on any device, and not be limited to a PC.  For IT users, this enables the acceleration of desktop and application deployment; for end users they benefit from flexible work scenarios such as the ability to work from home.  In addition, information and applications are kept safe in the datacenter, reducing the risk of laptop data and simplifying the burden of regulatory compliance through central management.  Finally, the integration of Microsoft RemoteFX with Wyse devices helps to increase remote worker efficiency, by quickly and securely connecting remote workers with the applications they need through a simple Web connection.  These remote workers will have the equivalent of a PC experience, but with none of the management or security liabilities inherent in personal computers.

"As organizations plan to deploy a centralized computing architecture with virtualized or session-based desktops, IT professionals want to deliver a premium user experience to connected workers," said Mike Schutz, director of product management at Microsoft Corp.  "The Microsoft RemoteFX feature in Windows Server will allow remote workers to access any type of application or screen content, including rich media and 3D applications. Companies such as Wyse are offering a path to the future by investing in solutions today that will increase the flexibility and performance of a centralized desktop environment."

According to Forrester Research, Inc.: "Beginning in 2010 but flourishing over the long term, the 'corporate desktop' will no longer be a physical machine but a virtual image that users will access from whatever device is most convenient at that time in that particular location. And users will be able to complete all of their activities (work and personal) from the same device without security compromises…Looking ahead, Forrester predicts broader, industrywide adoption in 2010 as IT managers increasingly view client virtualization as the future of the corporate PC."
