Shaping Up IT at Gold's Gym
Since
1965 the best bodies in the world have trained at Gold's Gym. From
its famous members to its famous sportswear, Gold's Gym has become
the largest gym chain in the world with over 650 gyms and nearly
3 million members worldwide. When CIO Jeff Skeen planned for growth
of the enterprise, he identified computers in the field as the biggest
risk and the weakest link in the IT infrastructure.
Gold's
Gym standardized on Wyse® Winterm thin clients to lock down the
desktop against information theft and personal use. Employees have
the benefit of a Windows desktop with the security of a network-centric
computing system-the perfect mix of high performance, low cost,
and low maintenance.
Wyse
Winterm thin clients enabled the fitness enterprise to slim down
and tone up their IT infrastructure. In addition to initial purchase
price savings, Gold's Gym reduced IT spending. The staff at the
gym can focus on helping members hit fitness goals instead of managing
computers.

"With
more than two million members worldwide, we have an extensive
database of important and private information that needs to
be protected. My team evaluated all the different ways to
set up a gym and found that thin clients allowed us to grow
rapidly and expand sites while minimizing IT support in the
field."
